As of July 1, 2011, Adults (over the age of 18), seeking services locally are required to contact Developmental Services Ontario to apply for services - www.dsontario.ca. Community Living North Grenville will assist you to get connected with this process. A worker from the local DSO will visit you at home or at a local pre-arranged location to complete the necessary paper work and assessments, you will not have to travel to Kingston. The regional DSO for our area is the Southeast Region and is hosted by Extend-A-Family in Kingston.

Developmental Services Ontario agencies can provide you with information about services and supports in your community that help adults with developmental disabilities. We can also tell you about other community programs that might be useful or interesting to you.

There are two ways for adults with developmental disabilities and their families to get supports. One way is to use the supports provided by government funded organizations. The other way is through direct funding. This is where they choose and pay for supports and services directly. (For example, they can hire their own job coach or personal support worker and use the funding they receive to pay them.) Direct funding gives people more choice and flexibility. Developmental Services Ontario staff will talk with you about this option when you apply for services and supports.
